This Meatball Recipe with Ground Beef is so plain and tasty!
We were never a big meatball fan, simply based on the fact that we have never been a big fan of ground beef in general. All the others we've always had are a plain ball of ground beef. No thanks. We experimented with this a couple of different ways. In the end, this is the way that we like best. As we said before, our husband is anti-onion so we stick with the onion powder in this one. And if we’re all being honest here, as much as we like onions in things, we don’t like them in this recipe. They become a little over powering using the actual onion pieces.
We serve our meatballs a couple of different ways… on spaghetti (as shown above), Hawaiian meatballs in the crock pot, sweet and spicy meatballs in the crock pot, and in meatball subs. We'll be sure to post some of those recipes on here in the future!

You will also need at minimum a small amount of egg in order to bind the meat together.
Ground Beef Meatball Recipe ingredients
- Lean ground beef – we personally prefer to use 90/10 for this recipe. You don’t want it to be too greasy.
- Egg – large eggs work best and best sure they are still fresh
- Onion powder – using a high quality, fresh onion powder will give a house favorite flavor, but you can also swap this out for fresh, finely minced onion
- Salt – coarse kosher salt gives excellent flavor without making it too salty. The Worcestershire sauce and the parmesan will both have salty flavor
- Worcestershire sauce – a unique taste that will pack these meatballs will tons of flavor
- Pepper – freshly ground black pepper is excellent, but if you don’t have freshly ground that’s okay too
- Parmesan cheese – freshly grated parmesan will give a house favorite melting results inside the meatballs, but the pre-shredded kind is an excellent alternative
- Panko breadcrumbs – you could substitute these with original style breadcrumbs if that is what you have on hand
What kind of beef is best for meatballs?
We like to use a 90/10 ground beef. It still has a little bit of fat without being too lean and doesn’t add a lot of grease to them.

Prep 10 minutesCook 15 minutesTotal 25 minutesMakes 20 meatballs
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (85/15 or 90/10 are best)
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup panko breadcrumbs
- ⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese (freshly grated is best)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons grated onion (or 1 tsp onion powder)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley (optional)
Method
- 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with foil for straightforward cleanup and place an oven-safe wire rack on top if using.
- Add the ground beef, egg, panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Worcestershire sauce, onion, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and parsley to a large mixing bowl.
- Gently mix everything together until combined. Avoid overmixing. It will make the meatballs tough.
- Use a small cookie scoop or spoon to portion the mixture into evenly sized meatballs, then roll gently with your hands. Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Serve immediately with pasta, marinara sauce, garlic bread, or use in meatball subs!
Notes
- Using 85/15 ground beef helps create juicier, more flavorful meatballs. Leaner ground beef can result in a drier texture.
- Finely grated onion adds moisture and flavor without leaving any large onion pieces in the meatballs.
- Avoid overmixing the meat mixture. Mix until combined to help keep the meatballs soft.
- A small cookie scoop makes it straightforward to create evenly sized meatballs, so they cook in the same window.
- For extra browning, place the meatballs on a wire rack set over the baking sheet and lightly spray the tops with cooking spray before baking.
- These meatballs freeze well, both cooked and uncooked. See storage instructions below for details. You can freeze cooked meatballs in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
