Tips for making Christmas Reindeer Chow

  • When melting the butter, peanut butter, and chocolate, be sure to use a medium to large microwave safe bowl to give you room for stirring.
  • When coating the cereal in the melted chocolate mixture, be gentle. Try not to break the cereal.
  • Be sure to do the powdered sugar in batches. It helps get better coverage.

Reindeer Munch Recipe substitutions

  • Chex Cereal – we use Rice Chex, but any version of Chex cereal will work. To be sure it remains gluten free, you cannot use Wheat Chex. One that we love to use rather than Rice Chex is Honey Nut. It adds even more sweetness.
  • Unsalted butter – we prefer to use unsalted butter, but salted butter is fine to use here as well.
  • Creamy Peanut Butter – Do not use a natural peanut butter. You need it smooth and creamy.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips – Semi-sweet chocolate gives it a specific flavor and richness, but you can experiment with both dark and milk chocolate to see which one you like best.
  • Holiday M&Ms – If you can’t find the Christmas/Holiday M&Ms, you can use any green and red candy coated chocolate you like!

How to store Christmas Munch

Once the reindeer munch has dried, you can store it in an airtight container on the counter for up to 1 week.

Many people prefer it to be stored in the refrigerator because of the chocolate, but it isn’t necessary.
