What you’ll need for Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings

A full recipe card with exact measurements and steps is located at the bottom of this post.

  • Wings – we like to get both drummettes and flats. You can find them together in a large frozen bag at places like Sam’s Club and Costco. You can usually find them sold separately at your local grocery store.
  • Salt & pepper – we always recommend coarse kosher or sea salt and ground black pepper
  • Smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder – the key to a house favorite flavor is making sure that your spices aren’t expired
  • Butter – you can use salted or unsalted butter, keep in mind that the parmesan cheese will add salt to this.
  • Grated parmesan cheese – we like using finely grated parmesan because it distributes better in the sauce
  • Fresh garlic – you can use freshly minced garlic or the jarred stuff, but either way don’t use garlic powder for the sauce

How to make Garlic Parmesan Wings in Air Fryer

  1. Start by preheating your air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes. This helps get the wings extra crispy.
  2. Add the wings to a large bowl and season them with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Toss them in the seasoning to fully coat them, making sure they’re well seasoned on all sides.
  4. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the wings inside in a single layer, making sure not to overlap.
  5. Air fry them for 12 minutes at 360°F.
  6. Open the basket, flip the wings, and air fry for an additional 5 minutes at 380°F. You want the internal temperature to be 165°F when measured with an instant-read meat thermometer. Increasing the temperature helps them get nice and crispy.
  7. While the wings are cooking, make the garlic parmesan sauce.
  8. Add the butter, garlic, onion powder, and black pepper to a saucepan over medium heat.
  9. Once the butter has melted, allow the garlic to saute in the butter for about 1 minute.
  10. Turn off the heat and mix in the parmesan cheese.
  11. Add the cooked wings to a clean mixing bowl and pour the sauce over them.
  12. Toss to combine until the wings are fully coated in the sauce.
  13. Serve them with extra parmesan cheese for sprinkling and a side of ranch.

How many wings can we cook at one time in the air fryer?

You don’t want to overcrowd the basket, so depending on the size of your air fryer , you can make 1-2 lbs at a time.

How to get wings crispy in the air fryer

We love air frying wings because not only does it cook faster than in the oven, there’s no deep frying involved. You still get that nice, crispy exterior with juicy, moist chicken on the inside.

There are a few tips and tricks you can use to make sure your wings are nice and crispy from the air fryer.

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. You’ll want the wings to be able to have high heat circulating around and between them. That means not overcrowding the basket and keeping them in a single layer.
  • Preheat the air fryer. One of the perks of an air fryer vs. Oven is typically not needing to preheat it. While it’s not required for this, it does help them get extra crispy.
  • Increase the heat after flipping. We always recommend increasing the heat for the last 5 minutes of cooking time to make sure you get that nice crispy exterior while still having juicy chicken.
